One of my favorite ways to add tons of tangy flavor and creaminess to dishes is to use Greek yogurt! It’s high in protein and so versatile. It’s also one of my favorite substitutes for mayonnaise to lighten up and add protein to comfort food (while still keeping it just as delicious).

So today I wanted to share my best recipes with Greek yogurt, from main dishes to sides, sauces, and satisfying smoothies.

What exactly is Greek yogurt?

Greek yogurt is just regular yogurt that’s had most of its whey removed through a straining process, making it a thicker and creamier consistency. It’s made from cow’s milk, and has a tangier, more tart flavor than regular yogurt.

Because of its thick and creamy texture (and tangy flavor), it makes a great substitute for sour cream, mayonnaise, and other similar dairy ingredients, and it’s awesome in smoothies, too.

Is it good for you?

Yes! Greek yogurt is packed with protein, and contains many nutrients such as calcium, Vitamin B12, and magnesium.

I always recommend using plain Greek yogurt, because it comes without any added sugars. That way, you can control how much sugar is in your smoothie, sauce, etc. Plus, you can also use it in savory dishes! I also recommend going for the full fat (rather than a fat free or low fat variation) version, because the fat will give the yogurt a better mouthfeel and will keep you satisfied for longer.

(For more on why I prefer full fat vs. low or no fat dairy, check out this post: 7 Common Nutrition Myths.)

Nutritious & Delicious Greek Yogurt Recipes

While I love a good fruit and yogurt bowl, there are tons of other ways to enjoy Greek yogurt as well! It’s not just used for breakfasts and desserts. In fact, Greek yogurt can be just as delicious in savory dishes as in sweet ones. (And to be honest, I almost always prefer savory over sweet!).

To prove my point, below you’ll find my go-to, most mouth-watering ways to enjoy Greek yogurt in main dishes and side dishes. Plus, I included a few Greek yogurt-based sauces and smoothies with Greek yogurt for a little extra variety. 🙂

Mains & Side Dishes

Lightened-Up Chicken Enchiladas

Greek yogurt makes a perfect swap for sour cream, so it’s no surprise that you can make some dang good enchiladas with it!

These chicken enchiladas are lightened up, but just as flavorful and comforting as traditional enchiladas. Plus, they’re topped with plenty of melty cheese and out-of-this-world homemade enchilada sauce. A must for family dinner nights!

Crunchy Broccoli Cauliflower Salad

Move over mayo-drenched broccoli salads, there’s a new creamy side dish in town that’s perfect for potlucks! This broccoli cauliflower salad is made with sweet grapes and crunchy pumpkin seeds, then tossed in a delectable (and simple to make) tangy lemon Greek yogurt dressing.

You and your guests won’t be able to get enough of this easy, crunchy salad!

Cranberry Walnut Chicken Salad

This Greek yogurt version of Waldorf chicken salad is unbelievably tasty! You’ll be an instant convert, I promise. 🙂 It’s full of tangy flavor and creaminess, with crunchy walnuts, sweet-tart dried cranberries, crisp apples, fresh herbs and more.

Enjoy this Greek yogurt chicken salad on its own, with crackers, on a sandwich, in a wrap – you do you!

Healthy Tuna Noodle Casserole

Any other fans of the classic tuna casserole out there? If so, say hello to your new favorite comfort dish! This tuna noodle casserole is just as good as the classic, but made by using Greek yogurt instead of mayo or condensed soup, and packed with lots more vegetables, too.

Your family won’t notice the difference, and you can feel good about serving a nutritious and delicious meal. It’s super easy to make, too!

Fruit Salad with Yogurt Honey Lime Dressing

Up your brunch game with this easy fruit salad with a fun twist – it’s tossed in a creamy honey lime yogurt dressing! It’s super versatile, too, as you can use any fruit you want – but seasonal fruit is usually best.

You only need 10 minutes to throw everything together, including the dressing. This pairs well with any breakfast dish, and will look gorgeous in your brunch spread.

Healthy Deviled Eggs with Greek Yogurt (No Mayo)

Here’s another classic recipe with a perfect Greek yogurt swap! You won’t even notice there’s no mayo in these creamy deviled eggs.

They’re flavor-packed, easy to make, and a crave-worthy appetizer for any event! You can even prep them ahead of time.

Curry Turkey Burgers with Yogurt Sauce

Turkey burgers sometimes get a bad reputation for being dry/sad, but they can be so juicy and flavorful if made right! These curry turkey burgers are so delicious, with plenty of fresh herbs and a creamy yogurt sauce on top.

It’s the best way to switch things up on burger night! I love these served with baked sweet potato fries, but they pair well with tons of other sides (like my crunchy broccoli cauliflower salad – made with Greek yogurt!).

Chicken Gyros with Watermelon Rind Tzatziki

Mediterranean-inspired yogurt sauce is one of my favorite ways to add flavor to wraps, sandwiches, and bowls. These chicken gyros with tzatziki, spinach, and fresh tomatoes are no exception!

They’re especially perfect for summer, because the yogurt-based tzatziki sauce is made with refreshing watermelon rind, but they can be enjoyed all year long. The sauce is delicious as a dip with crackers and veggies, too!

Sauces With Greek Yogurt

Avocado Crema with Lime

Looking for a simple crema sauce to dollop on tacos? This avocado lime crema is so easy to make, has some heat from jalapeño peppers, and pairs perfectly with Mexican-inspired flavors. All you have to do is toss everything into a blender and blend until smooth.

Enjoy this sauce on these veggie breakfast tacos or these grilled pork tenderloin tacos!

Creamy Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce

There’s no need for store-bought honey mustard sauce when you can throw together your own creamy version in a few minutes (with just a handful of ingredients)! This sweet and tangy yogurt sauce goes well with practically anything. The best homemade condiment!

Serve it with crunchy veggies, roasted baby potatoes, baked sweet potato fries, or baked salmon nuggets. Or, use it as a sandwich spread. It’s so versatile!

Greek Yogurt Smoothies

I LOVE making smoothies with Greek yogurt for an extra boost of protein and creaminess. Here are a few of my favorite recipes!

Chia Berry Smoothie with Greek Yogurt

Berry lovers: this will be your new favorite fruit smoothie! It’s packed with strawberries, blueberries, and cherries, and it’s super creamy.

Plus, the healthy fats and boost of protein from Greek yogurt and chia seeds will keep you satiated for hours. A perfect breakfast or midday snack!

Creamy Mango Pineapple Kale Smoothie

If you’re craving something tropical, this green smoothie is a must-try! Mango, pineapple, and banana come together for a delicious fruity combo, plus there’s a hidden veggie (kale) that you won’t even notice.

The most delectable (and satisfying) green smoothie recipe – you’ll want to make it again and again!

Strawberry Cherry Smoothie with Lemon

The brightness of lemon and the fruit flavor of strawberries and cherries make such a tasty combination in this refreshing drink. This lightly sweet and zesty smoothie brings all that deliciousness together with creamy Greek yogurt.

You can easily throw in a handful of baby spinach for some added veggies, too. You won’t even notice it! But just a note that if you do add spinach, the smoothie won’t be quite as beautiful a pink color. 🙂 Berries + spinach = more of a brownish color unfortunately.

Turmeric Mango Smoothie with Ginger

Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties (and more health benefits), and it makes an amazing add-in for smoothies.

It pairs especially well with sweet mango and zingy ginger here for a an uber-flavorful, super refreshing smoothie. The Greek yogurt balances it all out with creaminess and a hint of tangy flavor.

Lastly, for a delicious baking recipe with Greek yogurt, try these whole wheat sweet potato muffins! They’re moist, flavorful, and packed with nutrients – a perfect grab-and-go breakfast or snack.

I hope these yummy recipe ideas have you inspired to cook more with Greek yogurt! It’s such a nutritious and versatile ingredient that I always have stocked in my fridge. 🙂 Enjoy!

yes, completely on team greek yogurt! I've had a pretty low tolerance for mayo my whole life, unless it's a small amount mixed into tuna or egg salad, but greek yogurt is a total game changer to make so many recipes creamy and dreamy without the grossness I find in mayo! My favorite is a variation on your waldorf salad - just a really super fast quick chicken salad for lunches using shredded chicken with a mix of greek yogurt/pickle juice (!)/paprika/other spices, plus a chopped pickle and whatever veggies I have on hand. served with crackers or rice cakes.
